3 people burned in allegedly intentional Puna structure fire

Three people suffered burns following a structure fire Friday afternoon in Puna that investigators determined was intentional.

Hawai‘i Fire Department firefighters were called at 3:30 p.m. to a blaze in a two-story wooden residence of a family of four in the 15-1500 block of 29th Avenue in Hawaiian Paradise Park.

Medics also responded because of reported injuries from gasoline burns.

When crews arrived, they saw smoke coming from the first floor of the home. The flames, confined to one room, were extinguished within about 30 minutes.

Three people were injured and taken to Hilo Benioff Medical Center. One patient was taken to the emergency room.

Fire Investigators interviewed patients and investigated the residence. They determined the blaze was intentionally started.
